***UPDATE FOR FRIEND CHRISTINE***

These are from "The Rabbi's Cat," which is a wonderful story, with beautiful drawings that is sometimes funny and sometimes sad. People who are turned off by Dungeon might like these instead! I love them both. Joann Sfar invented a completely unique and wonderful way of drawing cats, it's really amazing to me. You can tell he loves his cat in real life, who is the model for the Rabbi's cat.
**UPDATE OVER! **
Ok!! I realize I might look dumb for only just discovering this guy, and probably half the people reading this know more than I do about french comics, or any comics for that matter...but I'm just so excited I have to talk about it here.
Joann Sfar has done a whole bunch of comics...I've been reading them like crazy every moment I have that isn't spent working. There are a whole bunch I really like, including "The Rabbi's Cat," "The Little Vampire," and "Vampire Loves," but the one that I'm going nuts over is this one called "Dungeon," which is co-written and drawn with Lewis Trondheim, who is also really good. I've sucked down the entire available Dungeon series in the past week.

It's impossible to get into everything here, but it mostly revolves around a dungeon and the folks who work there doing the dirty work.
The story goes on and on, and constantly changes directions, as do the characters, which to me is really entertaining. There's no reset button per page- the characters grow and change. Right now my comic "Skadi" has a one page format with a gag (maybe) at the end of each one, and then next week's is usually unrelated. I think it's good practice for learning, and its certainly fun to do, but it's not the kind of storytelling I really enjoy.

I love the characters in it. They are funny and likable and weird. The comic isn't "edgy" in some fake modern or trendy way, it's just a really good story. It also doesn't take itself too seriously, although since the characters are so cool, you do find yourself all wrapped up in their dramas and adventures. Or at least, I did!

I really love the pages above!! It's sort of sad though, actually I don't know too many people who read these sorts of things. Luke does though, so at least I don't have to obsess alone.
I think I really really like comics. I don't know all that much about them, or how to make a long series, but I would love to be a storyteller like Joann Sfar or Peter Bagge. I would really like to give it a try someday. I would like to think I have it in me, but it seems like a gigantic challenge.
Ok ok, read this part too!!

Hee hee hee, so good. When I find something I love as much as this comic, I get totally wrapped up in it and obsessed. The funny thing is, when I first saw this comic like a year or 2 ago, I didn't give it a second glance...I was like "eh, it looks so-so but I don't wanna get into it." How I regret my ways!!! It's not so-so, it's wonderful. I was a fool!!!
I'm kind of curious to know what comics people like to read. Being part of the animation crowd, you'd think more of us would read comics, but it's not as common as you'd think. I know a handful who are crazy into Superhero stuff (I think I might like superhero comics, but it's so intimidating to get into! There's too much to jump into!) and some who like underground stuff (don't give me anything angsty and serious! Ick!). Are comics like "Dungeon" and "Hate" popular?? They must be, but I don't know many people who sit down and read them cover to cover.
Well there's a lot more to say, but I am tired and need to go to bed as there is work tomorrow. I will leave you with this drawing I did for my friend Ray, who taught me how to ink, and who likes puke. I like Ray. He's one of the good ones!

Ok goodnight! Go buy and read comics!!
**** PRE-BEDTIME UPDATE****
P.S. Joann Sfar draws nice girls. :)
