Things are really hectic lately, so I might not be posting many drawings in the next couple months. I've got a lot going on! But don't stop visiting every now and then though, please! I'm still gonna update when I can. Here are some previews of stuff I'm working on.
The little bit of painting at the top is a teeny bit of a larger painting I'm almost done with. I'm not a good painter so I have to stick to simple stuff, but I kinda like how it's turning out. It's actual size. The other thing is just a drawing experiment that I expected not to work, but it turned out alright. I'll post both the finished ones soon!I've got a lot on my plate, and even though I'm drawing everyday, most of it I can't really show. My storyboard job is really challenging- I'm still kind of new to boarding, and the Mighty B is a demanding show, so a lot of time I normally spend doodling is spent actually doing work (shocking!). My priority after that is Skadi, and while it gets easier to do as time goes by and I get more used to drawing the characters, we're making the comics more elaborate so they still take up a lot of time. After that, I've got my Etsy store to get all set up- I have a ton of old inks to sell, but as they're a bit old and not too flashy, I'm trying to create some new original art as well (like the stuff I posted about above). On top of everything else, I've been super inspired to try making more comics. There's so little time though, so it's frustrating. I get headaches all the time now too, which keeps me from drawing as much as I'd like. Anyhow, with all these projects that I'm trying to get done, there isn't as much time for just drawing random silly stuff. T__TYuck I typed too many words. Sorry!
Lotsa work lately...not much time for doodling. So here's some little things.BUT FIRST! Happy Birthday Nico! I meant to get this up earlier, before midnight, but I failed. I hope your day was great!!And second- thanks for all the comic suggestions and interesting comments for my last post! I am definitely going to look into them. Also, thanks to those who pointed out that Lewis Trondheim has a larger part in the Dungeon comics than I initially gave him credit for. I am already on the hunt for his personal comics! Actually I'm pretty comic-crazy right now.
OK, some drawings!
A while ago Sean Worsham was nice enough to buy a drawing from me off of eBay, and as an extra thank you I sent a little doodle of a girl. I always kind of liked the extra drawing, so recently I inked it and colored it up with marker, then played with in photoshop. The wood stuff is inspired by my pal Miss Mindy, who does amazing art with wood and paint! I can't paint, and I don't know how to cut wood, so mine is just a scanned cheat in photoshop. Thanks Sean for saying I could post this!
I like my friends. Here are two of them, drawn at work:

SANDRA!

MARLO!Hi Sandra and Marlo!OH ALSO I got a new haircut. My old haircut looked very serious and boring, and I didn't like it. My bangs were too long and I couldn't see anything. I got them chopped and now I feel happier.
Ok that's it!
***UPDATE FOR FRIEND CHRISTINE***
These are from "The Rabbi's Cat," which is a wonderful story, with beautiful drawings that is sometimes funny and sometimes sad. People who are turned off by Dungeon might like these instead! I love them both. Joann Sfar invented a completely unique and wonderful way of drawing cats, it's really amazing to me. You can tell he loves his cat in real life, who is the model for the Rabbi's cat.
interesting and wonderful
lovely
adorable and sad
hilarious and cute
**UPDATE OVER! **Ok!! I realize I might look dumb for only just discovering this guy, and probably half the people reading this know more than I do about french comics, or any comics for that matter...but I'm just so excited I have to talk about it here.Joann Sfar has done a whole bunch of comics...I've been reading them like crazy every moment I have that isn't spent working. There are a whole bunch I really like, including "The Rabbi's Cat," "The Little Vampire," and "Vampire Loves," but the one that I'm going nuts over is this one called "Dungeon," which is co-written and drawn with Lewis Trondheim, who is also really good. I've sucked down the entire available Dungeon series in the past week.
It's impossible to get into everything here, but it mostly revolves around a dungeon and the folks who work there doing the dirty work. The story goes on and on, and constantly changes directions, as do the characters, which to me is really entertaining. There's no reset button per page- the characters grow and change. Right now my comic "Skadi" has a one page format with a gag (maybe) at the end of each one, and then next week's is usually unrelated. I think it's good practice for learning, and its certainly fun to do, but it's not the kind of storytelling I really enjoy.
I love the characters in it. They are funny and likable and weird. The comic isn't "edgy" in some fake modern or trendy way, it's just a really good story. It also doesn't take itself too seriously, although since the characters are so cool, you do find yourself all wrapped up in their dramas and adventures. Or at least, I did!
I really love the pages above!! It's sort of sad though, actually I don't know too many people who read these sorts of things. Luke does though, so at least I don't have to obsess alone. I think I really really like comics. I don't know all that much about them, or how to make a long series, but I would love to be a storyteller like Joann Sfar or Peter Bagge. I would really like to give it a try someday. I would like to think I have it in me, but it seems like a gigantic challenge.Ok ok, read this part too!!

Hee hee hee, so good. When I find something I love as much as this comic, I get totally wrapped up in it and obsessed. The funny thing is, when I first saw this comic like a year or 2 ago, I didn't give it a second glance...I was like "eh, it looks so-so but I don't wanna get into it." How I regret my ways!!! It's not so-so, it's wonderful. I was a fool!!!I'm kind of curious to know what comics people like to read. Being part of the animation crowd, you'd think more of us would read comics, but it's not as common as you'd think. I know a handful who are crazy into Superhero stuff (I think I might like superhero comics, but it's so intimidating to get into! There's too much to jump into!) and some who like underground stuff (don't give me anything angsty and serious! Ick!). Are comics like "Dungeon" and "Hate" popular?? They must be, but I don't know many people who sit down and read them cover to cover. Well there's a lot more to say, but I am tired and need to go to bed as there is work tomorrow. I will leave you with this drawing I did for my friend Ray, who taught me how to ink, and who likes puke. I like Ray. He's one of the good ones!
Ok goodnight! Go buy and read comics!!
**** PRE-BEDTIME UPDATE****P.S. Joann Sfar draws nice girls. :)
Whenever I feel like drawing but nothing is inspiring, I always turn to photos of friends or people I admire, because they are always fun to draw. A lot of the time I draw people from photos on blogs, MySpace, and Facebook, sometimes just to warm up, too. Here are some rough doodles of girls I find inspiring and want to know better! There are tons of guys I find inspiring too, but they're too hard to draw at this point...sorry! (> o <)
Casey is pretty and her blog has funny drawings and pictures! Her photos are elegant and classy and nice to draw. Her blog says she is doing a comic soon! Hooray!!
I like how this blue Casey came out, even though the pen kept crapping out and trying to die.
I really don't know Molly at all, other than from stories Nico has told me and what I've seen from her blog! She seems like a funny and wonderful girl with a cute style.
This was the first drawing I did of her, and I didn't like it at all at first, but then later on it grew on me a little. Molly is really pretty, a lot prettier than my drawings of her.
WAHHHH when oh when will I get to meet Kristen...Kristen's art is amazing, she's totally one of my heroes. She draws everything well and with happy and good design. And she's funny. And cute. She takes really funny photos that are fun to draw. I like Kristen!
Here is Marlo and Kristen, with mustaches!
Chloe's art intimidates me a bit because it is so interesting and unique and wonderful! I've never seen art like hers before- it's mesmorizing stuff. Chloe was hard to draw because she's quite beautiful and I couldn't capture it quite right. I will try again though!
I knew Robyn as a young kid and was always in awe of how well spoken and smart she was. Now I have discovered her blog!
On top of being smart and interesting, she's also pretty and was fun to draw!
Tara is actually about a million times cuter than this drawing! She's also a super prolific cartoonist who is doing tons of stuff despite how young she is.
I think this drawing is funny and weirdly cute, but it is still not anywhere as cute as the real Tara. Sometimes when I draw people, weird things happen. That's it for now! Lets all pray and give thanks to the internet god for making it possible to communicate with and stalk other people all over the world!
