Sorry Mom, sorry Dad!

I told myself I'd never get too personal on my blog, but I can't help it...I'm so in love with my new magic haircut. I don't really "get out" all that much though, so I don't get to show it off! Sorry guys! And sorry parents, don't disown me!
It's magic! It's short on this side...
and long on this side!
These things make me happy

And now for the thinking part...
When I first started drawing girls and using magazines for reference, I would say "screw actually looking at the magazine! I'll just get inspiration from it, and change the parts that are too hard to draw" and I made lots of wonky pictures. Then a couple years later I got all serious and crap and started studying the magazines more, trying to get all the anatomy better and ignoring all the cute details that had distracted me before. Now I'm bored of being studious and I'm back to using magazines mostly for inspiration.
I like how this girl turned out. I'm curious about other artists that use photos for reference...what features on this girl would you have pushed further? I ignored her face and drew a somewhat generic one, and took more interest in her funny standing pose and hair shape. I added the lip sticking out because I thought the girl's pulled up turtleneck was so cute. I should have made it stick out more!

Fun and no fun

I like how the hands in this drawing (above) came out! Sometimes its fun to draw things like hands, feet, elbows, knees and the like closer to how they actually are, instead of stylizing them into the usual pretty shapes.
Lately I've only been drawing with cheap ball point pens. I like them because I can trick my brain into thinking that drawings done with such a crappy instrument aren't worth stressing over. They end up being less stuffy and overworked. Plus, the ink smears like crazy when you color it with marker, and it kind of looks cool!

I guess these drawings are pretty stuffy, even though I used my magic pen to draw them. Maybe I should start drawing with poo on the end of a stick from now on! I still can't reach the level of cartoonyness I want when I'm drawing from reference. Barf!

I like these types of drawings a lot better, even though I still wish their faces and bodies were more specific. Oh well! At least drawing is becoming fun again!

Ebay time

Hooray! I've got my ebay account and my paypal all set up. Thanks again to all the people who helped me figure out what to do! I've got two drawings for sale on ebay now:
If you happen to want to bid on either of these, you can look up "funnycute" or my ebay name, "chuppiecheebo." And if you do, please make sure to read the description! These drawings are pretty small, and I wouldn't want to disappoint anyone!

Maybe if these sell alright, I'll put up some more. I have another question for those of you reading! Do you think people would buy black and white inks on ebay as well, or just the pretty colored ones?

Thanks!

Everyone's girlfriend...with hats

I was looking through photos I'd taken at a party a little while back and decided to draw some of the people who's pictures I'd taken. I'm lucky to be surrounded by such cute friends! Try and guess who these girls are. If you can, I'll email you their phone numbers...and then you can get beat up by their boyfriends and husbands! What a fun game! (by the way, there were some cute girlfriends who were sitting on the opposite of the room, so I didn't get pictures of them...if I had, they would certainly be up here too! It's a well known fact that I only have cute friends, ha!)A trip shopping inspires drawings of myself wearing my new cheap finds. Very important!
What post would be complete without a drawing of Emily, my favorite highschool friend? I don't think she reads this blog, but if she did, she might notice that lots of my drawings are inspired by her cute and funny antics.

P.S. By the way, I'm getting my paypal crap all figured out...thanks for the imput, guys!

Plug and girl-tard

It's funny...I was looking at my first few posts from when I started this blog, and noticed that my old entries were a lot wordier, with more ideas and stuff. I guess when someone like me gets in a drawing rut, it sort of kills the inspiration to talk about drawing theories and get excited about them. I hope this doesn't last too long. Do people like talking about drawing techniques and observations? I guess for visual artists, articulating ideas is pretty difficult sometimes. So here's some more of the usual...doofy looking girls.

Another thing, Gallery 1988 is having an art show called "Remixing the Magic," which features a lot of super cool artists making pictures based on their favorite Disney related subjects. It's located at 7020 Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles, on the corner of
Melrose and La Brea. I'm going to be there on the opening night (this friday, the 17th) to stalk the other artists who will be there. Oh yeah, I'm gonna be in the show, also. For those of you in the area, you should come too and schmooze with all the cartoony-type picture makers!
P.S. For all of the people who read this blog and were nice enough to enquire about the drawings I'm selling on ebay, they should be there soon...I haven't put them up yet because I don't know whether I should use paypal or not. Do people have a preference? Not using paypal might be easier for me, but I've heard a lot of people say they won't buy from ebay unless they're able to pay through it. I'll be sure to mention it when I finally put them up for sale!

I made this for you

Anyway, here's some important information- sorry it's late notice (I tried posting this earlier, but blogger wouldn't cooperate), but John K. is going to be at the House of Blues in Anaheim TONIGHT, so if anyone who lives around here can make it, go see it! There's going to be cartoons, a Q and A, and maybe other surprise fun stuff. Here's the website with ticket info:

Another thing, I'm trying an experiment and putting some old marker drawings on ebay soon. I hope someone will buy them! I think I'll put one up for sale today or tomorrow...they're all drawings from about 2 years ago, and better images are on my portfolio website.

Old crap

Ugh, it's been a while since I last posted...sorry! The truth is, the only new drawings I have are the ones I've been doing for various freelance projects I'm working on. I've tried taking some time to do my own drawings, but it seems as though I'm still in my christmas rut. Crappy crapola!

I'm gonna just copy what I've seen a few other people do on blogs recently and post some old artwork. I hope it's amusing to those of you still keeping up with this site (thanks by the way)!
An early obsession with cute things. I'm not sure how old I was when this drawing happened.

Sophomore year of highschool is spent doing way-too-realistic drawings of people that are cute to me. I'm still in love with the people I thought were cute back then!

The rest of highschool my friends and I are obsessed with anime, and copying other people's drawings line for line out of magazines we got from ebay!

This isn't that old of a drawing, but I thought I'd include it since it's a drawing of someone I knew from highschool who wasn't a very pleasant person! Shame on you, bad person. I guess it's ok since she's cute, ha! I'll forgive you!

One other thing, I'm enabling a comment moderation thing on this blog...but I might take it off soon, since so far it seems to be acting weird. So if your comment doesn't make it on here after you post it, it's because I haven't figured out this new feature yet. Don't worry about posting critiques...I'm only censoring mean comments. I'll still be allowing insults with bad punctuation however, since they're funny to read. For my latest favorite, check out the comments on my "Holiday time" post!
